Dezmond is an American spelling of Desmond, an Irish surname from the Gaelic Deasmhumhain, meaning "from South Munster", the old kingdom in the south of Ireland. Archbishop Desmond Tutu and the TV series Lost, with its character Desmond Hume, kept the original in the public eye while the z spelling grew up in the United States. Dezmond ranked number 1262 in 2000, its best year, and has slipped to number 2060 in 2025.
