Darcy comes from the Norman French surname d'Arcy, "from Arcy", a village in Normandy, and in Ireland it also stands for Ó Dorchaidhe, "descendant of the dark one". Jane Austen's Mr. Darcy in Pride and Prejudice made the name a byword for brooding romance, and it crossed to girls in the 20th century. Darcy entered the US top 1000 for girls in 2024 and ranks number 857 in 2025, its best position so far.
