Danae is a name from Greek mythology: the princess locked in a bronze tower whom Zeus visited as a shower of gold, making her the mother of the hero Perseus. Its meaning is uncertain; it is usually explained as "the Greek woman", from the Danaans, an old name for the Greeks, or as "parched". Danae peaked at number 1011 in 2001, rose to number 1344 in 2024 and ranks number 2417 in 2025.
