Daemon is the Latin spelling of the Greek daimon, which meant "spirit" or "guardian spirit" long before it took on its darker English sense; it also works as a spelling of Damon, "to tame". The HBO series House of the Dragon, with its prince Daemon Targaryen, lifted the name in the United States from number 1921 in 2022 to number 1239 in 2023; in 2025 it ranks number 1645 with 102 boys.
