Christine is the French form of Christina, from the Latin Christiana, which means "follower of Christ" or simply "Christian". It was a top 20 name in the United States in the late 1960s, and Stephen King borrowed it in 1983 for the title of his novel about a possessed car. Christine ranked number 217 in 2000, slipped out of the US top 1000 in 2020 and stands at number 1,274 in 2025.
