Cayde is a modern spelling of Cade, an English surname of uncertain origin that is usually explained as "round" or "lumpy", from a medieval nickname, or linked to the Old English word for a barrel. The y spelling took off with Cayde-6, the wisecracking Hunter in the video game Destiny, released in 2014. In the United States Cayde climbed from number 4422 in 2015 to a peak of number 1009 in 2019, just short of the top 1000, and stands at number 1409 in 2025.
