Cain is the Hebrew name of the first son of Adam and Eve, usually explained as "acquired" or "spear". Because of the biblical story of Cain and Abel it was long avoided, but its strong, short sound has won over modern parents, and some choose it as a spelling of the Welsh Kane. In the United States Cain entered the top 1000 in 2009, peaked at number 727 in 2014 and stands at number 1142 in 2025.
