Bronx is a modern American place name taken from the New York City borough, which in turn is named after Jonas Bronck, a 17th-century Scandinavian settler; it has no traditional meaning beyond "the Bronx". Its rough, one-syllable sound puts it alongside names such as Knox and Jax. Bronx was essentially unused in 2000 and has risen to number 1133 in 2025, its best rank so far.
