Briseida is the Spanish form of Briseis, the captive woman over whom Achilles and Agamemnon quarrel in Homer's Iliad. The Greek name is a patronymic and means "daughter of Briseus"; the medieval romance of Troilus and Cressida grew out of her story. In the United States Briseida belongs to Mexican American families: it stood at number 2431 in 2000, peaked at number 1162 in 2005 and after a dip to number 4113 in 2021 ranks number 2491 in 2025.
