Briella is a short form of Gabriella, the Italian feminine of Gabriel, and so it carries the Hebrew meaning "God is my strength". American parents picked it up in the 2000s as a lighter alternative to Gabriella and a cousin of Brielle. Briella entered the US top 1000 in 2010, peaked at number 259 in 2018 and ranks number 362 in 2025.
