Bowman is an English occupational surname that means exactly what it says: "archer" or "bowman", a soldier who fought with the longbow. As a first name it is a recent choice, joining Archer and Beckett in the fashion for rugged surname names. Bowman has climbed from number 6909 in 2000 to number 2396 in 2025, its best rank in the United States so far.
