Bodhi is a Sanskrit word that means "enlightenment" or "awakening", the state the Buddha reached while meditating under the bodhi tree. It came to American parents through yoga and Buddhism and through Patrick Swayze's surfer character Bodhi in the film Point Break, which gave it a laid-back, beachy image. Bodhi entered the US top 1000 in 2010, rose from number 498 in 2015 to number 265 in 2025, its highest rank yet.
