Azir is a modern name of uncertain origin, usually explained as a variant of the Arabic Aziz, meaning "mighty" or "beloved", or of Nasir, "helper". Many parents know it from Azir, the emperor of Shurima in the video game League of Legends, introduced in 2014. In the United States the name has climbed from number 6709 in 2015 to number 1795 in 2024 and number 1711 in 2025, its highest rank yet.
