Arden is an English surname and place name, from the Forest of Arden in Warwickshire, usually explained as "high" or "great forest" from a Celtic root; Shakespeare set As You Like It there, and his mother was Mary Arden. The cosmetics founder Elizabeth Arden gave the name an elegant feminine ring, and it is used for both girls and boys. For girls Arden has hovered around the edge of the US top 1000 for years, reaching number 918 in 2015 and, after nine years just outside, number 975 in 2025.
