Antwan is an American phonetic spelling of Antoine, the French form of Anthony, which goes back to the Roman family name Antonius, a name of uncertain Etruscan origin that is traditionally, if wrongly, explained as "priceless" or "praiseworthy". The spelling became popular in African American families in the 1970s and 1980s. Antwan was still in the top 1000 in 2000 at number 705, its best year in this data, but it has declined steadily and stood at number 2606 in 2025 with 50 boys.
