Andie is a pet form of Andrea, the feminine form of Andrew, and so goes back to the Greek andreios, "brave" or "manly". The actress Andie MacDowell, born Rosalie Anderson, made the spelling familiar in the 1980s and 1990s. In the United States Andie was number 1404 in 2015, entered the top 1000 in 2023 and has risen to 650 in 2025, its best rank so far.
