Alastor is a Greek name meaning "avenger"; in mythology it was an epithet of Zeus as the punisher of crimes and the name of a spirit of vengeance. Percy Bysshe Shelley used it for his 1816 poem Alastor, and modern readers know Alastor Moody from Harry Potter and the demon Alastor from the animated series Hazbin Hotel. The name had fewer than five births in 2000, rose through the 2010s and jumped to its peak of number 1902 in 2024 after the series premiered, settling at number 2451 in 2025 with 55 boys.
