Abubakr is a compact spelling of the Arabic Abu Bakr, which literally means "father of the young camel" and honors the first caliph, the close companion and father-in-law of the Prophet Muhammad. The name is widespread across the Muslim world from West Africa to South Asia and is usually spelled Abubakar or Aboubacar there. In the United States Abubakr rose from number 3368 in 2015 to number 1957 in 2024 and ranks number 1992 in 2025.
