Abbie is a pet form of Abigail, from the Hebrew Avigayil, "my father is joy", the name of King David's wise wife. It has long been a given name in its own right, especially in Britain. In the United States Abbie ranked number 591 in 2000, peaked at number 513 in 2001 and slipped out of the top 1000 in the 2010s; in 2025 it ranks number 1652 with 125 girls.
