Tommy is the pet form of Thomas, the Aramaic name of the apostle, which means "twin". It has been used on its own since the 19th century, and the Who's 1969 rock opera Tommy and the designer Tommy Hilfiger keep it feeling friendly and all-American. Tommy was number 307 in the United States in 2000, 706 in 2015 and ranks 658 in 2025.
