Talon is an English word name meaning "claw", the sharp claw of a bird of prey, which traces back through Old French to the Latin talus, "heel". It came into use as a given name in the United States only in the late 20th century and owes its appeal to its strong, predatory sound rather than to any older tradition. Talon entered the top 1000 in 2000, peaked at number 426 in 2006, slipped out again after 2021 and stands at number 1181 in 2025.
