Rubi is the Spanish form of Ruby, the red gemstone whose name comes from the Latin rubeus, "red", so it means "ruby" or "red jewel". The Mexican telenovela Rubí, which aired in 2004, sent the name into the US top 1000 the following year. Rubi peaked at number 431 in 2005, dropped back into the 1300s and has recovered somewhat, ranking number 1079 in 2025.
