Reza is the Persian form of the Arabic name Rida and means "contentment" or "satisfaction", in the sense of being at peace with God's will. It is one of the most common men's names in Iran, where it honors Ali al-Rida, the eighth Shia imam, whose shrine in Mashhad is the country's largest pilgrimage site; the last two shahs, Reza Shah and Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, carried it too. In the United States the name is used mainly by Iranian American families and has risen gently from number 4995 in 2000 to number 2635 in 2025, its best rank so far.
