Randy is the pet form of Randall and Randolph, Germanic names made of rand, "shield rim", and wulf, "wolf", often summed up as "shield wolf". Country singer Randy Travis and pitcher Randy Johnson are among its best-known American bearers. A top 50 name in the 1950s and 1960s, Randy still stood at number 278 in 2000 but has declined year after year, leaving the top 1000 in 2024 and ranking number 1089 in 2025.
