Omer is used in two traditions: it is the Turkish form of the Arabic Umar, meaning "flourishing" or "long-lived", the name of the second caliph, and it is also a Hebrew name that means "sheaf" of grain, familiar from the Counting of the Omer between Passover and Shavuot. In the United States Omer ranked number 1913 in 2000, peaked at number 1715 in 2018 and stands at number 2103 among boys' names in 2025.
