Nile is the name of the great river of Egypt, from the Greek Neilos, whose origin is uncertain; a Semitic word for "river" is one common explanation. It is also used as a streamlined spelling of Neil, the Irish name usually read as "champion" or "cloud". The river association gives it the same appeal as River and Hudson. Nile reached a best rank of 1421 in 2021 and stands at number 1848 in 2025.
