Mikey is an affectionate pet form of Michael, the Hebrew name Mikha'el, a rhetorical question that means "who is like God?". It is usually a family nickname, but a small number of American parents put it on the birth certificate, and Mikey Walsh, the young hero of The Goonies, made it part of 1980s pop culture. Mikey has never been a top 1000 name: it ranked number 3602 in 2000, reached number 2618 in 2012 and sits at number 2631 in 2025 with 50 boys.
