Marta is the Spanish, Italian, Portuguese and Slavic form of Martha, from the Aramaic word for "lady" or "mistress of the house", the name of the sister of Mary and Lazarus in the New Testament. The Brazilian soccer star Marta, six times world player of the year, is its most famous modern bearer. In the United States Marta peaked at number 1495 in 2001 and has stayed in a narrow band since, ranking number 2056 in 2025.
