Marcell is the Hungarian spelling of Marcel, from the Roman family name Marcellus, a diminutive of Marcus, which is usually explained as "little warrior" or "dedicated to Mars". In the United States the double-l form is more common among African American families than among Hungarians, with the baseball player Marcell Ozuna as a well-known bearer. Marcell ranked number 1414 in 2000 and has settled in the low 2000s since, standing at number 2375 in 2025.
