Lynx is the English and Latin name of the wild cat with tufted ears, from the Greek lynx, which is related to a word meaning "light" or "brightness" because of the animal's shining eyes. It is a bold nature name in the same spirit as Fox, Wolf and Bear and is also a constellation. Lynx has risen from number 6927 among US boys in 2015 to number 2278 in 2024 and ranks 2823 in 2025.
