Lando is an Italian short form of Orlando and Rolando, the Romance forms of Roland, a Germanic name meaning "famous land" from hrod, fame, and land. Most Americans know it from Lando Calrissian in the Star Wars films, and more recently from Formula 1 driver Lando Norris. The name has climbed steadily in the United States, from number 6167 in 2015 to number 2424 in 2021 and number 1685 in 2025, its highest rank so far.
