Kannon is most often a spelling of Cannon, an English and Irish surname that goes back to the church title canon and means "clergyman", though today parents mostly hear the big gun in it. In Japan, Kannon is also the name of the Buddhist bodhisattva of mercy, better known in China as Guanyin. Kannon entered the US top 1000 in 2013, peaked at number 539 in 2020 and has fallen back to number 904 in 2025.
