Kaila is usually read as a spelling of Kayla, a modern name that grew out of Michaela and Kay and is often given the meaning "crown of laurels" from the Hebrew Kelila; it also matches the Hawaiian word kaila, "style". Like Kayla, it rode the 1990s wave that followed the soap opera character Kayla Brady. Kaila peaked at number 462 in 2000, left the top 1000 in the years after and ranks number 2133 in 2025.
