Jolene is an American name from the 1940s that blends Jo, the short form of Josephine, "God will add", with the fashionable ending -lene of Darlene and Marlene. Dolly Parton's 1973 song Jolene, a plea to a red-haired rival, made it one of the most recognizable names in country music. In the United States Jolene re-entered the top 1000 in 2010, peaked at number 450 in 2019 and ranks 666 in 2025.
