Jared is a Hebrew name from the Bible, borne by a descendant of Adam in Genesis, and means "descent" or "he descends". It was a quiet name until the 1960s, when the Western series The Big Valley featured a Jarrod Barkley and helped it surge; actor Jared Leto is a current bearer. Jared ranked number 56 in 2000 and has slid steadily to number 396 in 2025.
