Janae is a modern American name formed from Jane or Janet with the French-sounding ending -ae, as in Renae and Danae. Through Jane it goes back to the Hebrew Yochanan and means "God is gracious". It was most popular at the turn of the millennium: Janae ranked number 471 in 2000, left the top 1000 in the 2010s and has continued down, from number 1003 in 2015 to number 1687 in 2025.
