Jamie is the Scottish pet form of James, from the Hebrew Ya'aqov, which means "supplanter" or "holder of the heel". In the United States it has been used for both sexes since the 1970s, and actor Jamie Foxx and the character Jamie Fraser of Outlander keep it in the public eye for boys. For boys Jamie ranked number 502 in 2000 and has held a place in the middle of the chart, standing at number 577 in 2025.
