Ishani is a Sanskrit name meaning "ruling" or "mistress", a title of the goddess Durga as the consort of Ishana, a form of Shiva. It is a modern favorite in Indian families, lighter and newer than many classical goddess names. In the United States Ishani ranked number 3918 in 2000, has stayed close to number 3000 for a decade and reaches number 2569 in 2025, its best rank so far.
