Harley is an English surname and place name from the Old English hara and leah, meaning "hare clearing" or "hare meadow". The Harley-Davidson motorcycle gives it a rebellious edge, and the comic-book antihero Harley Quinn pushed it toward girls in the 2010s. For girls Harley peaked at number 202 in 2017 and has slipped to number 418 in 2025.
