Flora is the Latin word for "flower" and the name of the Roman goddess of flowers and spring, whose festival, the Floralia, was celebrated in late April. It has been used in Scotland and England since the 18th century, when Flora MacDonald helped Bonnie Prince Charlie escape. In the United States Flora was out of the top 1000 for decades, returned in 2019 and reached number 607 in 2025, its best rank in generations.
