Emrie is a modern American spelling of Emery, which goes back to the Germanic Emmerich and is usually explained as "industrious ruler" or "work ruler", from amal, work, and ric, ruler. The -ie ending softens the surname-style Emery into something closer to Emmie and Elsie. In the United States Emrie peaked at number 1390 in 2017, slipped to number 2832 in 2024 and bounced back to number 1994 in 2025.
