Dolores is a Spanish name meaning "sorrows", taken from the Marian title María de los Dolores, Mary of the Sorrows. It was hugely popular in the early 20th century, carried by the silent film star Dolores del Río and later by labor leader Dolores Huerta. In the United States Dolores ranked number 1926 in 2000, peaked at number 1891 in 2001 and stands at number 2567 in 2025, now with the charm of a grandmother's name.
