Diane is the French form of Diana, the Roman goddess of the moon and the hunt, whose name means "divine" or "heavenly". It was a staple of mid-century America, worn by actresses Diane Keaton and Diane Lane and the broadcaster Diane Sawyer. Diane was still in the top 1000 in 2000 at number 712, but it has since become a grandmother name waiting for revival: in 2025 it ranked number 2620 with 66 girls.
