Derick is a spelling variant of Derek, which goes back through Dutch to the Germanic Theodoric and means "ruler of the people". Derek arrived in America in the 20th century, and the alternative spellings Derrick and Derick spread with it. Derick ranked number 616 in 2000, its best year in this century, and has slipped out of the top 1000 since, standing at number 1478 in 2025.
