Darren is a 20th-century name of uncertain origin, usually explained as an Irish surname meaning "little great one" (from the Gaelic Dáire) or as a variant of Darrell. It became popular in the 1960s after the sitcom Bewitched gave the name to Samantha's husband. In the United States Darren ranked number 298 in 2000, stayed in the top 1000 through 2024 and stands at number 1135 in 2025.
