Copper is the English name of the warm red metal, which goes back to the Latin cuprum, "metal of Cyprus", after the island that supplied the ancient world. As a given name it joins Cooper, Colt and Flint among the rugged word names of the 2010s and suggests reddish hair. Copper was hardly used before 2015, bounced between number 3000 and 7000 and reached number 2947 in 2025, its best rank so far.
