Arnold is a Germanic name formed from arn, "eagle", and wald, "power" or "ruler", so it means "eagle power" or "ruler with the strength of an eagle". The Normans brought it to England, and in America it belongs to golfer Arnold Palmer and actor-turned-governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. Arnold ranked number 760 in 2000, its best year this century, slipped out of the top 1000 in the following years and stands at number 1477 in 2025.
