Akoa is a very new name that extends the Hawaiian Koa, "warrior" or "brave", also the name of the islands' prized hardwood tree, with an A- opening in the manner of Akai and Amari; it has no documented history before the 2020s. Its rise has been swift: Akoa first appeared on the national list in 2023 at number 9798, jumped to number 3696 in 2024 and reached number 2676 in 2025 with 48 boys.
